Per
Sivle (1857 – 1904) was one of the most read
authors in Norway around 1900. His father, Eirik
Sivle, was born at the Sivle farm, and Per grew
up on the neighbouring Brekke farm after the death
of his mother, Susanna Andersdotter Ryum, when Per
was only 2 1/2 years old.

reflective and tragic. Many of his stories build
upon the people and experiences from his home environment
of Brekke, Sivle and Stalheim.

Per
married Wenche vonder Lippe Nilsen from Bergen,
and the couple had one daughter, Susanna (Sussi)
Sivle (born in1888). Per Sivle suffered from poor
health and migraines and in 1904, at the age of
47, tragically took his own life.
